2018 Snowbee Innis Spring Cup was well attended again by anglers from all over England and Wales. Conditions seemed favourable but turned out quite challenging when the wind turned to the east and blew between 12 and 17mph making casting very difficult on some of the pegs. Although both lakes fished steadily throughout the morning, lunchtime it was quite obvious that some anglers who were a few fish ahead could still be overtaken with some consistent afternoon catches. Alex Johnstone, Peter Runnalls, Mike Green, Paul Jones, Ryan Vincent, Dave Grove and Dave Daniells were all in the running heading out for the afternoon session. Welsh angler, Kevin Hockley, had a terrific afternoon catching eight fish from three pegs and pushing himself into second place behind the eventual winner, Dave Grove from Devon, with the same total of fish. Both anglers caught eleven fish by the end of the day, which resulted in a tie for first place. So it came down to who caught the quickest fish of the day, Dave Grove came out on top by just two minutes catching his at 9.22am and Kevin at 9.24am….a very close match.
Presentation evening was held at Trethurgy Village Hall where Russell Weston from Snowbee UK and Dave Johns, owner of Innis Fly Fishery, presented the prizes and Trophies.
A total of 37 anglers took part catching 164 trout making the overall rod average 4.5 per angler.
Thanks to Snowbee UK for their continued support as our main sponsor of this competition. A big thanks to our controllers for giving up their time and withstanding the harsh cold conditions in order to make it all run smoothly. A massive thanks to Kernow Hog Roast for supplying such a great spread at such short notice and finally thanks to Dell and Gyl for helping with afternoon refreshments.
All this couldn't have taken place without the unseen hard work that took place beforehand. As always a massive thanks to Peter Runnalls for all his hard work throughout the year but especially prior to this Spring Cup in getting Sterrick Lake up and running. We would also like to say a special thank you to Dave Truran for all the time he put in helping to remove the vast amount of weed from Sterrick Lake. Big thanks also goes out to Stuart Parkin, Dave Daniels, Loren Bracher, Phil and Dave Bromley and Alex Johnstone for the effort they put in and the time they gave up.
Many Thanks from Dave and Theresa.
